Local bail totals for speeding

Santa Clara's 2026 Traffic Bail Schedule became effective January 1, 2026. Its speed chart applies to all speed limits.

Table: Local bail totals for speeding

Speed over the limit Base fine Chart total
1 to 15 mph $35 $158
16 to 25 mph $70 $287
26 mph and over $100 $410

The chart totals leave out a $40 operations assessment under Penal Code 1465.8 and a $35 charge under Government Code 70373. For speeding over 100 mph under 22348(b), the schedule lists base bail of $200 and marks a mandatory court appearance.

The schedule says the Judicial Council sets bail for Vehicle Code infractions. See the ticket cost estimator for the full breakdown.

San Jose traffic court: where to go

Your notice names the courthouse. The court's contact page lists the Traffic Clerk's Office in Morgan Hill. The address 191 North First Street, San Jose, CA 95113 belongs to the court's bail schedule coordinator for the Traffic Division, and the Superior Court Administration Office there is reachable at (408) 882-2700. The courthouse for your hearing is printed on your notice.

Extensions

The court's Traffic FAQs say the clerk can give one extension of no more than 30 days past the due date, with no fee. Ask the clerk at (408) 556-3000 before the due date passes. If you miss it, read failure to appear. A standing order filed June 15, 2026 indefinitely suspends imposing civil assessments in criminal and traffic matters after June 1, 2026, so a missed date does not bring one while the order stands.

Traffic school here

The 2026 schedule adds a $49 fee for monitoring traffic violator schools under Vehicle Code 42007.1(a) and a TAP fee under Vehicle Code 11205.2(c) to the total bail for school-eligible offenses. The court's traffic page links the self-help traffic school page for sign-up information.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a traffic court in San Jose?

Your notice names the courthouse for your case, so use that. The court's contact page lists the Traffic Clerk's Office in Morgan Hill. The address 191 North First Street, San Jose, is where the court lists its traffic bail schedule coordinator. Call the clerk before you travel.

How do I pay a Santa Clara County traffic ticket online?

Use the court's Traffic E-Payments link on its traffic division page, which points to portal.scscourt.org/traffic. You can also pay by phone at (408) 878-0098. Have your citation ready, and check the due date first. The court's portal opens with a case lookup.

What is the traffic clerk's email?

The Traffic Clerk's Office email is sstrafficinfo@scscourt.org, according to the court's contact page. The phone line is (408) 556-3000, and the ADA/TDD line is (408) 556-3093. This page does not list the clerk's hours, so confirm them with the court before you travel.

Why is my Santa Clara total different from the state schedule?

The county chart leaves out two flat fees that the statewide totals include, so the numbers are built differently. The court's own page says the schedule does not show the total owed, because state assessments and fees are added. Your notice has the amount due.
